I have a non computerized Janome and thought I'd add these notes for using the button hole attachment on mine.

When setting your dial to "buttton hole" you'll need to spin the dial at least two turns - generally I go past button hole one stitch and back again. The dial will also need to be reset for EACH buttonhole you wish to sew! (this is stated nowhere in the manual)

When starting up gently ease down on your pedal - too fast (at least on my machine) and it won't make a buttonhole...

I'm completely with you on these shows. I wonder how many parents actually watch them with their kids? I can't stand Dora... why all the yelling?

And for the lack of parents... maybe the writers don't want all the kids sitting around watching the show without parents to feel bad?

Delurking to let you know you're not alone. My girls are 18 mos apart, 4 and almost 3. They play beautifully, but most of the play turns to bossiness (from the elder) or obstinance (from the younger). I, like you, can only hope that they will realize that their relationship is much more important than whatever the conflict is about. Good luck to you.

Boy does that bring back some memories! (suddenly my head itches!) My daughter had them a few times growing up, ugh, my husband was so patient, he'd tell her stories while he combed that little comb thru her hair. Then I started keeping it French braided, then she got older and started with the hair gels, and hair dryers, I think there is something to that, we never had them again. As a teacher I had to deal with outbreaks often. I read (and I hope it is true) that if you use hair products like gel, mousse, hair spray on the hair the nits won't stick and the lice don't like it. I have had many encounters without getting lice yet (knock on wood). Maybe try that as a preventative?

How true Indy. For a dad with a boy about to turn 10, he is hitting double digits, can't get enough sports, and occasionally is caught looking at a girl or two. I, too, can still remember the day he was born. As he came into the world, his eyes were opened staring at me. Of course, I know he could not recognize me, but the power of that moment brings tears to my eyes as I remember that moment. Life was forever changed at that moment.

Thanks for the reminder of life's preciousness.

This is a beautiful post. I couldn't have written anything close to as beautiful.

When my Caitlin was born, I said to her in my heart, "I am going to (try and) be your best friend.." ... right after I said "HOLY SMOKES she looks just like me!!" (I have baby photos of myself)

She will be (only) 3 yrs old next weekend, but I can already identify & feel with what you have beautifully expressed. Each day & each new thing / skill she learns is another step towards independance, from me.

I've had a friend with a similar experience here in the last year. It's especially tough as almost everyone in our group is pregnant or giving birth as this mother mourns.

I'm glad she has a friend like you nearby. Grief needs to be shared- it reminds the primary mourners that the life had value and meaning no matter how short its duration.
